Welcome to STEAMPunks!

Hi! I’m Lindsay and I create and run the STEAMPunks classes.

I‘m a qualified chemistry and biology teacher, with over 15 years teaching experience. Although I have mostly taught at secondary school level, I have also had a the privilege to teach in primary and nursery classes as a science specialist. I have loved teaching at every level, from pre-school to advanced higher!

I have three daughters of my own, and after my eldest started school whilst on maternity with my third, I decided to take some time away from teaching to spend time with them. However, now that all my children are in primary school, I am excited to get the chance to teach again.

I, like many of you, had the experience of home-schooling during the pandemic and I loved being able to work on science, problem solving and creating with my own children.

Why choose STEAMPunks?

STEAMpunks classes are designed to develop your child’s understanding of the 5 areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.  The STEAM learning environment gives children the opportunity to engineer and investigate solutions to problems, and use evidence to provide explanations. This can start at any stage and can be achieved through everyday play.

These classes help children develop skills, such as problem solving, and encourage curiosity and creativity. They will also help them build their confidence and learn to accept that mistakes are part of the process!

Within each class I will be covering a selection of CfE science outcomes for early years and level 1. If you are interested in having STEAMpunks visit your nursery or school, I can tailor lessons to specific outcomes you are looking to cover, just send me a message at Steampunksglasgow@outlook.com if you have any questions.

Hopefully, both you are your child will have fun investigating together!

Have a look at some of the feedback below!

"Steampunks have visited our nursery for the last 4 weeks providing science based activities and learning related to the children’s interests and the curriculum for excellence.

Lindsay is fantastic, engaging, knowledgeable and fun. The children have loved the experiences and we cannot wait to have her back for more sessions. "

My Daughter attended the Easter session yesterday and absolutely loved it! She was talking about the experiments they were carrying out and talking me through the workbook she was given to help with the experiments. She is looking forward to going back next week. I’m hoping a summer session is going to happen!"

"Lindsay the teacher is excellent at keeping the children’s attention during each experiment and activity . Her instructions for the children are clear and concise . My 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed performing an experiment of his own and watching the demonstration. Lindsay manages to find just the right balance of fun and learning in all the activities and is so engaging with the children. Great to have found a class that is a bit different and introduces my son to science . Highly recommend!"
